My Last Hen

Wordless Wednesday

Wordless Wednesday at Create With Joy

I love raising laying hens. At one time I had over 40 hens and and a beautiful rooster. When we began to travel more often I decided to reduce my flock. We gave 30 hens to a local farmer and I had ten remaining. A few weeks after reducing my flock a possum got in the hen house. My rooster killed the possum and died defending his girls. A few days later a dog got in and killed all the remaining hens except a white hen I named  Pearl.
Pearl is a survivor. She has lived 2 years now since the flock was killed. I still enjoy her antics and she enjoys total free roaming on our farm.
Chicks we hatched in an incubator.

We keep them in the chicken run when we are not at home.

A little time out in the yard. When we are home to keep them safe.
Mr. Rooster!

Two days of eggs from my hens.
My last hen Pearl. Having breakfast with our cats.
